Guide to Acceptable and Prohibited Items in Our Dumpsters

Our 20-yard rubber wheel dumpsters are perfect for a variety of materials from both residential and commercial renovation projects. However, some items need special care because they are hazardous.

These items include chemicals, paints, oils, batteries, liquid waste, asbestos, flammable or explosive materials, and waste from medical facilities. Disposing of these materials improperly can lead to significant risks for the environment and public health.

Non- Acceptable Items for G’s Dumpster Rentals

  • Refrigerators: Due to toxic refrigerants, you cannot dispose of refrigerators in a dumpster. You can hire an HVAC specialist to safely drain the chemicals and then arrange for their removal. Alternatively, contacting an appliance repair company for disposal may be simpler.
  • Hot Water Tanks: Hot water tanks can be hazardous in landfills due to the gases they may contain. Contact your local waste disposal department or recycling company for safe disposal.
  • Tires: Tires cannot go in dumpsters because they pose risks in landfills. Instead, reach out to a local tire recycling company for proper disposal.
  • Car Batteries: Old car batteries must not be placed in dumpsters. You can take them to an auto shop or battery replacement center for recycling.
  • Oil and Fuel Containers: Highly flammable items like propane tanks and any other flammable materials should not be placed in dumpsters. Empty containers that previously held flammable materials must also be excluded.
  • Lithium-Ion Batteries: Batteries from laptops and smartphones should not go in the dumpster.
  • Paint Products: Items such as paint, paint thinner, lacquer, stains, and varnish cannot be disposed of in dumpsters due to hazardous components like mercury or lead, although some empty paint cans may be accepted.
  • Adhesives: Glue and epoxy can leak and cause items in the dumpster to stick together. These should be disposed of with regular trash.
  • Inks and Dyes: Printer cartridges and pens containing ink or resins can stain dumpsters and should be recycled instead.
  • Household Cleaners: These often contain hazardous chemicals. Rinse and recycle empty bottles when possible, but only containers with no chemical residue can go in the dumpster.
  • Medical Waste: Items like bandages or needles that have been in contact with bodily fluids pose health risks and should only be disposed of by registered medical waste disposal providers.
  • Hazardous Materials: Asbestos, pesticides, and certain chemicals must be taken to local waste disposal centers. Asbestos should only be handled by registered disposal providers.
  • Contaminated Materials: Soil or liquids mixed with hazardous materials need special containment or decontamination as per Superfund guidelines.
  • Industrial Drums: These can contain hazardous waste and should only be disposed of by licensed waste haulers.
  • Railroad Ties: Treated with chemicals unsuitable for landfill, find out how to recycle these or contact a landscaping company that might repurpose them.
